"2M's of Interest"
Ever thought what drives interest?? During the macro-economics session yesterday, I was thinking about the numerous presentations, quizzes, term exams and class participation. It just occured to me that the real drivers of knowledge and interest are marks. There are a very few students who might actually give a thought to making reports, presentations or class participations out of curiosity. Most of them look at the grade sheets with greedy eyes hunting for grades and more than interested in what the rival has scored!! If it was high-school then it might not sound that funny but i am a student of MBA and to witness these interest drivers in a B-school is sad and hilarious at the same time. Our bulletin boards are lined with grade-sheets of various term exams and daily online quizzes and the clear conclusion which anybody can derive from it is that the biggest motivator for students are marks.
The other M which drives interest, curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge is, you must have guessed it quickly...its Money. That was too obvious and cliched right?? But really, why else do you think students join expensive, A-grade B-schools and institutions like IIT, IIM? Its the glitter of thick pay-package in "well-known" companies, spare me for not mentioning the names, im just one of those students who wants a star-placement.

great thoughts,i definitely agree with you,you should write something more also on this topic..
ReplyDeletethats true, innovative thought.
ReplyDeleteOur marking system is just like a Mario game
ReplyDeleteWhere , to get gold coins you need to jump @ relevent place.
In greeed of gold coins we some time over look obstacles which can kill you.
Great work, you have actually put the ideas that every student of B-school wonders. Really they are the driving force, without which we wouldn't have thought of even going to B-schools!!!
ReplyDeletehey i m jayesh.i agree with u on this.these are the main drawbacks which come in our way of achieving the excellence.if we overcome this every college will be an IIM.
ReplyDeleteNice blog..!!
ReplyDeleteTotally agreed with you but we can't do anything because this is the system every where and we have to follow.
So tell me can we do something for our betterment of future...??
You are thinking on right way. I am support with your point. every collages thinking on practical study implement in education sector. so mark is not important but learning is important.
ReplyDeleteThink on future...???
Good grades, good placement, good money. Don't talk about the domino effect. People do pursue satisfaction in job and knowledge in B-School. But the sad part is most realize it only after two beautiful years of your life are gone by.
